Job Search Fundamentals

Engaging in a jobsearch will likely take one of the following paths (each on which will have different challenges/results and pychological challenges):

1. Leveraging your network.
2. Working with a recruiter.
3. Applying through job boards/listings (cold - without a connection).
4. Having a recruiter reach out (when actively or not actively looking).

To develop an understanding of/reinforce how positions are filled, it is helpful to have a basis of knowledge of the channels that are typically utilized to fill external positions. This will help to decide where to focus your time during your jobsearch. On average external hires are obtained through three main channels. The breakdown from each channel can be broken down as follows:

1. 50% of positions are filled from inbound applications.
2. 30% of positions are filled through employee referrals.
3. 20% of positions are fill from recruiter outreach.
